Want to stop fighting your curls and simply bring out the best in your natural texture with a cut that does all the hard work for you?

Meet the Curly Girl Shag

The 2021 way to enhance your natural curls, with only minutes of low heat styling necessary.

What is it?

A layered cut for curly hair inspired by the classic ‘70s shape, but softened and modernised for an easy, 2021 vibe.

What are the benefits?

✓ Gives your curly hair natural shape – without things getting bushy
Brings out your natural movement
Takes minutes style (no more being a slave to your straighteners or tongs)
Exudes effortless, textured cool

Who does it work on?

This cut is great on shoulder length to long curly hair (any shorter, and we’ve got just the bob for you). It’s similar to our regular Shag, but embraces the texture and movement of your natural curls with layers that start at the crown and ripple down through the lengths. As you’ll see from our video, it looks killer with a fringe too.

The A-list references…

Mick Jagger and Stevie Nicks were the originals; models Mica Argañaraz Freya Beha Erichsen bought it right up to date.

So, how does it work?

The graduated layers of a traditional shag can seem a little too severe or graphic – particularly on very straight hair. The beauty of cutting this style into curly hair is that the curls bounce back to soften those layers once dry, creating a look that has bags of natural shape and movement – but still feels really natural and effortless.

How do I style it?

Styling curly hair can sometimes feel like a bit of a battle. This cut does the hard work for you by creating the foundations of a shape that complements your curls, so you can spend less time actually styling it. We simply scrunch 1-2 pumps of Almost Everything Cream through the mid-lengths and ends to beat frizz. Then we speed up drying time by adding some heat with the diffuser, to bring out curly girls’ great natural texture.
