THE 5 BEST TIPS FOR CURLY HAIR

Flat, shapeless, fuzzy and generally out of control? If your curls are getting the better of you, here’s five insider tips to give them lift, definition, bounce and movement this season.
1. THE CURLY BOB CUT
One of the most common questions we get asked about curls is ‘how do I create more shape’? Great Curls starts with a Great Cut. A short, chin-length Bob (think Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rihanna) with a hint of a bowl shape (thanks to the sides being ever so slightly shorter) creates instant lift that brings out the natural shape and texture of your curls.
2. ADD SLICED LAYERS
The sheer weight of curly hair can tend to drag your hair down, taking your facial features with it. Our stylists love to ‘slice’ super subtle layers into the front section to create face-framing shape with an anti-gravity effect.
3. CURLS AND A FRINGE
Often avoided, but as a combo, it works beautifully when done well. Adding a long, shaggy fringe (see Zendaya and Freya Beya Erichsen) adds structure to your look, brings out your curls’ natural shape – and works to frame and emphasise your eyes.
4. COLOUR THOSE CURLS
If your curls tend to look a bit flat and ‘meh’, a sprinkling of colour can add depth and three-dimensional shape. Ask your colourist for some face-framing babylights and a little balayage throughout the lengths, while keeping the roots dark, for a natural, sun-kissed finish.
5. BEAT FRIZZ AND DEFINE
As the best-selling styling cream, Almost Everything Cream hydrates, prevents frizz and defines your curls when you apply a pump or two on wet hair. You can always scrunch a little more through the lengths and the ends later in the day if your curls are feeling dry and unruly. Style your curls in a centre part, or flick them to one side for more height and shape at the front.
