Zendaya’s New Pixie? We’re Taking Notes

Just when you thought Zendaya had exhausted every possible hairstyle, she goes and delivers one of her shortest – and chicest – cuts yet. The actor stepped onto the Emmys carpet earlier this week with a perfectly tousled pixie cut.

The work of hairstylist Coree Moreno, Zendaya’s new crop is short and sleek around the sides, with a little more length, height and piece-y texture through the crown. Moreno described his inspiration as a classic pixie seen through a “modern, editorial lens”, with the aim of balancing refinement with a little rebellion.

And if the look feels familiar, that’s because it is. Styled with a tousled, almost spiky finish for the Emmys, it was a deliberate nod to Halle Berry’s iconic ’90s and early-Noughties pixie – a reference Zendaya’s longtime image architect Law Roach has confirmed. Berry herself evidently approved, sharing side-by-side images of the pair on Instagram Stories after the ceremony.

The style is a natural conclusion to a year of steadily shorter styles for the actor, who moved from a curly bob-pixie hybrid into a longer “bixie” before committing to the full crop. And, in the space of just a few days, she has already demonstrated the pixie’s greatest selling point: despite its diminutive proportions, there are myriad ways to wear it.

Consider this your sign that the big autumn chop is officially back – all you need is a little Almost Everything Cream and you’re good to go.
