The Secret To Enhancing Grey Hair As You Get Older

The Secret To Enhancing Grey Hair As You Get Older

There comes a certain point in all of our lives when grey and silver strands start to emerge, and we’re faced with a decision: Embrace them or disguise with some form of colour treatment. Both can work equally well. However, if you’re someone who doesn’t like the natural colour you’re faced with, there are myriad ways to approach your colour, says our colourist Hannah

“I think the secret to excellent colour as you get older is to lighten the hair and work with your greys, rather than against them,” she explains. “Skin tone plays a crucial part as it also changes with age, so hues that once suited you may not now. Lighter tones tend to work better with more mature skin, bringing a softer, more natural touch to your overall look.”

The shades that work best for you depend entirely on your features and skin tone – and a good colourist can help guide you – but, in general, adding warmer colours into the hair can help bring colour to the complexion.

Enhancing your greys is all about lifting certain pieces to a whiter shade, then adding soft blonde highlights which “work beautifully with grey hair, instead of overpowering them,” says Hannah. Subtle but multidimensional colour can bring life to silver strands, creating a flattering effect on the skin too.

And beyond that? It's all about confidence and a little styling know-how. Simple.
