5 Steps To Healthy Holiday Hair (That Actually Work)

While heading on holiday is an incredibly relaxing time for you, it’s not always the same for your hair. Whether you’re beach-bound, city-escaping or sitting by a pool, your hair has to deal with UV rays, salt or chlorine-filled water, humidity and heat. But with a little strategy, and the right kit, your hair can stay as effortlessly cool as you feel.

Here’s how to look after your hair on holiday.

Pre-treat before you travel

If your holiday involves serious sun, sand or chlorine, start prepping your hair before you leave. A deep-conditioning hair mask or an in-salon gloss can help lock in moisture, enhance colour and create a protective barrier to limit damage. Those with blonde hair should consider using a toner to help counteract the inevitable brassiness or green tinge that can arise from sea, sun and chlorine exposure.

Treat and protect

Before you go out in the sun, get one step ahead. Apply a deep conditioning mask and then Air Dry Spray UV (which contains UV protection) then pull hair up into a protective style, whether that’s a loose braid or bun. Those with textured hair who are wearing their hair in protective braids should be extra careful about burning their scalp. Whatever your hairstyle, finish with headwear, whether a bandana (Hailey Bieber is a fan), hat or cap, and add Almost Everything Cream to moisturise ends throughout the day.

Master the art of air-drying

Who wants to faff about with a hair dryer in 30-degree heat? Holidays are the perfect time to embrace your natural texture, so grab your Air Dry Spray and mist it into post-shampooed hair – then twist and scrunch to add body and movement.

Rinse your hair after swimming

Whether chlorine or salt water, make sure you rinse hair thoroughly after you’ve been swimming – this helps limit what the hair can absorb, and therefore reduces risk of damage. Using a clarifying shampoo can also help remove any residue.

Have a haircut when you’re back

Book in for a haircut when you’re back from holiday. This will help you deal with rogue split ends and damage and any colour fade, plus you can also add a deeply moisturising hair treatment to help restore your hair to its former glory, should damage arise.
