Job Purpose

As the General Manager, you will be entirely responsible for delivering an outstanding service to our clients, ensuring an on-brand performance at all times while harnessing the talents of our fantastic team. The GM will assume responsibility for optimising the operational and financial performance of Berners Street and Selfridges salons.

 Role objectives

  • To drive the business turnover upwards in line with budget
  • Increase clients average spend.
  • Improve client retention.
  • Drive culture and engagement within the teams to ladder up to the core values and mission.
  • Scout and recruit talented stylists.
  • Maximise the usage of the salon space, returning higher revenues across the salon.
  • Work with the Training Manager to deliver World Class apprenticeships to speed up trainees opening columns.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure on-brand performance is achieved across Berners Street
  • Monitor, develop and inspire the teams.
  • Achieve and keep high levels of engagement with the teams, celebrating success and reducing employee turnover.
  • Drive world-class service putting the customer at the heart of everything we do.
  • Provide innovative solutions to maximise the value of the salon space.
  • Continually evaluate the performance of the training manager and provide coaching and development to achieve continuous high standards.
  • Achieve operational excellence by creating a high-performance environment that embraces continuous improvements.
  • Source, develop and retain world-class stylists and colourists.
  • Ensure controls are in place for wage costs and stock control.
  • Onboard all newcomers consistently to ensure they are given the Hershesons welcome and are clear about expectations.
  • Be a role model for the teams. The standard you walk past is the standard you set.
  • Set and keep the standards, systems, structure, and operational processes.
  • Create a career road map for trainees, stylists, and colourists.

About you 

  • You will have held a similar role in a salon that delivers world-class standards.
  • You will ideally have trained as a professional hair stylist or colourist and diversified into management. 
  • You will lead from the front, building credibility and engagement across the workforce. 
  • You will be a competent communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Possess intellectual curiosity, passion, and bags of self-motivation.
  • You will have a keen sense of teamwork. 
  • You will have integrity, ethical standards, and sound judgement.
  • Be committed to excellence. 
  • You will have a thorough, diligent, and pragmatic approach to work with exceptional organisation skills.
